About How Old Does A Ball Python Have To Be To Start Eating Multiple Mice or Small To Medium Rats?

My Ball Python Is Currently 8 Months Old.About How Old Does A Ball Python Have To Be To Start Eating Multiple Mice or Small To Medium Rats?
Wrong. Your Ball python does not have to be a certain age to eat a large mouse, multiples or be started on rats. It all depends on the girth of your snake, rather than age.

Get a tape measure and size your snake at his widest part, that should be the same size as the girth of your prey. You can also do it visually; width of snake, width of prey.

Another way to know if to get yourself a digital food or postage scale (Walmart, Fed-ex and Kmart have these) to weigh your snake; prey should be 10% of the total weight of your python.

Multiples are fed if you can't get prey that is the same size as your snake is around.Too small a mice will probably leave your snake hungry, so it's better to give it two if you can't find the next size rodent.About How Old Does A Ball Python Have To Be To Start Eating Multiple Mice or Small To Medium Rats?
Use this formula to determine the size of the rodent that you should be feeding your ball python : The size of the prey should equal the size of your snake's mid-section at it's widest point. I have one female ball python that eats nothing but full grown mice. Some ball pythons will imprint like this. This means that they recognize only the chemical signatures released from mice as food. In this case, you would offer multiple mice to compensate for the appropriate sized rodent that they should really be taking. Your snake may not be such a picky eater. Follow the formula and you should be okay but, just in case, you will have another option on how to feed your ball python if he does become finicky.
Hey, Feed you Royal Python on defrosted mice and rats. The size of food given depends on the size of the Python, this shouldn鈥檛 be any larger then the widest part of the Pythons body. Young Pythons should be fed every 7-10 days, older Pythons every 10-14 days and adults should be fed every 3 weeks with breeding females being fed every 2 weeks.

Good Luck.
Azure Child gave you some excellent advice, I hope you follow it. Age is not the determining factor in what size of prey a snake is fed, size (weight and girth) is. Two of my balls are from the same hatching, one is still on med-large mice while the other is on smallish rats as they are fed according to size.
My ball Python is also about 8 months old and she eats one large mouse per week.

Feeding more does not make them bigger, at that age a large mouse a week is the right amount of food.
