Is a tank good cage for two small mice?

I have a ten gallon tank for my fish and the bottom is only about a foot square. Keeping two mice in there would be very cruel.

I suggest going out and buying a proper mouse cage. If you want mice you need to care for them properly. Is a tank good cage for two small mice?
I depends completely on the size of the tank and you have to then have a mesh screen lid for ventilation. But, I would say mice cages are much better for them. Plus, with aquariums you need to clean them much more often because, even with the screen top, the ventilation isn't too great and it's easier for respiratory infections come about more often.

EDIT: You really should have a lid, mice can jump pretty good and then good luck finding them once they're gone. A 20 gallon would be much better, mice are very active and should have lots of things to play with. And once those babies are born you'll need to separate the mom and babies from the other mouse. You should really separate them now so that she can have the babies in a solitary place. Is a tank good cage for two small mice?
a 10 gallon tank has about 2 square feet of floor space, right?

it that is so, then they can live quite happily in there. you can have up to 4 mice, but anything over that then you need a larger cage.

anything smaller than a 10 gallon aquarium, i dont recommend for any number of mice, including even just one.

having no lid is fine IF your cage has high walls and if no toys are tall enough for them to stand up on and climb over. one of my aquariums currently have no lid and i have 2 female mice living in there. it's been months and even my escape artist hasnt managed to come out.

the only exception to this is when your cage has limited toys, is small and they are bored. they will obviously try every possible way to get out, and they can jump very high when they want.

when your pregnant mouse gives birth, you will need to separate the other mouse from her, therefore you need two cages. be prepared for this.

if your cage has a floor space less than 2 square feet, add extra levels in it so they can have more space.

here is what i use for the extra levels:

Yes, but you may want to consider a mesh wiring covering for the top, they probably can't climb up the sides, but just in case.
most likely...just make sure it has a top with good ventilation.

depends on the tank size too...maybe you should add that on there
