What do snakes eat BESIDES MICE?

I'm asking this again because basically the other time the answers were ';More mice';

If the only thing this animal can possibly eat through its centuries of life and adaptation mice than simply say ';They only eat mice.'; Thank you. What do snakes eat BESIDES MICE?
What a snake will and wont eat depends on its individual situation, if you have a wild caught animal it will be more likely to eat a larger variety of things than captive bred snakes who are pretty much conditioned to survive on the more easily accessible types of prey. Many captives will take other types of food though, that is rather dependent on the species and where they originate from, royal pythons, for example, have a diet consisting of mostly gerbils in the wild so would probably be quite willing to give them a go. In general though most snakes will eat any rodent that is put in front of them, including gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, rabbits and even the family chinchilla if they can get hold of it!! They will also eat birds, lizards, other snakes and the garter snake feeds pretty exclusively on fish. A hungry snake will eat what it can get but ignore anyone who tells you bugs and insects or fruit and veg cos they will simply ignore any amount of that you throw in for them, it's not something they recognise as food, hope this helps ;-)What do snakes eat BESIDES MICE?
That would depend entirely upon which species of snake you are referring to- each species has it's own dietary requirements.

Most of the species that are fed mice in captivity will eat other warm blooded prey, such as birds and rodents.

If you are thinking about getting a snake, but are too squeamish to feed it mice, then you can choose a species that eats other types of prey; however, these species are generally difficult for a beginner.
It really depends on what size they are and if they are pets or wild. Usually when they first hatch wild ones small insects, frogs, their siblings what ever they can get there jaws around usually. As they get bigger there prey gets bigger rabbits, cats, birds etc. Pets and captive snake are usually fed mice 'cause it's convenient for their owners(not all owners) usually pinkies when snakes are little, but could also small insects (mimicking wild diet), rats and chickens and such when they get bigger, usually the animals are knocked out before being fed to the snake for the animals safety. I hope this helps.
Depends on the snake. Some Arboreal (tree-dwelling) snakes will only eat lizards and some will only eat birds. I have had a few that WILL NOT eat mice at all...in fact, some will starve to death rather than eating a mouse.

The best practice, though most idiots fail to do this, is to research the animal in question and learn about its natural habitat and behavior. Then match your enclosure and diet accordingly. I believe in learning about every animal no matter how common they may be.

A few tricks of the trade:

1) When you acquire a snake, find out if it has grown accustomed to live or thawed food. If it is used to live food then it may take time and effort to get it to eat thawed. These snakes are used to the movement and sent of the prey which is non-existent in frozen mice.

2) If you have an arboreal that will only eat birds or chics, try scenting the mouse with chicken broth....Im not kidding! It works. It saved one of my snakes.

3) If a snake doesn't eat, its not the snake...it's you. You have placed the snake in a very unfamiliar environment whether it be too hot, too cold, too arid, too humid, etc. Another very important factor is whether the snake is nocturnal or not. These snakes will rarely feed in the presence of light. Most of the time simply covering the cage with a box while feeding will do, but some can actually tell the difference between darkness and actual nighttime.

Hope this helps.

It really depends on what snake you have and what size it is. Basically snake food ranges between mice, rats, hamsters, eggs, guinea pigs, rabbits and even chickens. (These are the foods people would generally feed their pet snakes) Snakes in the wild will also eat birds, lizards, goats and deer.
it depends on the snake some of the things snakes eat are:

eggs

other snakes and reptiles

minnows

birds

bunnies

guinea pigs

goats

quail

the most common things that pet snakes eat are mice, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs and quail. but they eat all kinds of things in the wild...especially the larger snakes like retics and burms and anacondas.
it depends totally on the species of snake

there are plenty of arboreal species that eat eggs birds and small mammals

maybe if you told us more about the snake you wanted to know about some1 could help you
Snakes that take rodents will usually also eat frogs, lizards, birds, rats and any other rodent. There are some species of snake that eat insects of various kinds...some like my snail eater will only take snails and slugs. Nothing else.
Large snakes eat other small snakes also. besides this they eat small birds, animals, rodents ( animals of rat family ) and reptiles like lizards, frogs etc.
Worms, insects, eggs of other animals or small mammals. As for a pet snake, it is typical to feed the snake mice.
